How to Pack Light

Packing light obviously depends on where you are going and how long you’ll be gone. Perhaps it’s squeezing a weekend trip into a single personal item so you can take a budget airline for cheap. Or, maybe it’s backpacking through Europe with only a carry-on.

Regardless of where your next adventure takes you, here is my advice for how to pack light:

  • Challenge the need for everything.
  • Stick to one color scheme (e.g., black vs. navy).
  • Learn how to use sock curls to do your hair.
  • Optimize space with vacuum-sealed bags.
  • Utilize your pockets! Wearing a bulky sweatshirt or jacket with large pockets can help you in a pinch.
  • Find a bag that fits the maximum size, like this Osprey backpack carry-on.
  • Pack as few shoes as possible.
  • Go for less bulky items, like AirPods vs. over-the-ear noise-canceling headphones.

Ok, we need to talk about shoes more. As a fashionista, minimizing how many shoes I take is tough, especially if I’m going to a wedding and need a nice pair of heels. Here’s the thing: it’s currently 2024, and sneakers are considered fashionable. So, don’t fret about wearing sneakers to the club or out with a cute sundress. No one will blink an eye at you in this day-and-age.

I also love my Salomon Gore-Tex Trail Runners because they work for walking, hiking, running, and when it’s raining. Now, wearing THESE sneakers with a dress is NOT a cute look—but I’ve done it.

Don’t you typically have to ASK people to get your full body, including shoes, in your photos anyway?
